Arctic Policy Issues

Arctic policy in the past has been a side issue to many governments, and policies governing the Arctic have been fragmented. With the increasing awareness of the impact of climate change on the Arctic and what is now known about the global impacts of climate change – along with the rising global demand in oil, gas and other natural resources found in the region – there is now a more serious effort emerging among governments to examine the relevance of Arctic policies and what they mean in terms of the environment, trade, and economic development. In the coming years it is  likely a more uniform global Arctic governance policy will be developed.
